Philosophy

I love using metaphors to describe our experience, as they can help deepen understanding. Psychotherapy to me is like peeling an onion. It’s a metamorphosis. It’s opening doors to rooms that you at some point were told should better stay shut, because deep down you know you can’t feel fully alive when parts of you are trapped in boxes, no matter how safe or neat they may seem. Psychotherapy is a reclamation and a homecoming, and it can make life more complex and fulfilling by leading us toward the life-long practice of attuning - to ourselves, others, and the world.

Through my studies, and in looking for direction and answers, I have found some frameworks whose grounding principles I appreciate, such as humanistic, existential, depth and eco-psychology, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). But above all I am curious about and awed by the wisdom that emerges from our lived experience, and the self/life that unfolds when we learn to listen to and honor that. In that sense, my work is deeply rooted in anti-oppressive, (neuro) diversity-affirming practices.

I believe in showing up as a human being first, in assuming best intent, and engaging in committed action towards creating the kind of world/reality we want live in - even if that means confronting the ways in which we’ve been complicit in our own oppression, or that of others.

During each session, we will work together to co-create a safe space to explore your presenting concerns. I integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities to ensure that we can work together in a way that best supports your unique needs and goals, including Humanistic and Existential Psychotherapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic/Experiential Therapy, Eco-therapy, as well as Tarot and Astrology.
