Being with horses... Clinic

  • The Anderson Ranch Emigrant, MT (map)

Recognizing & Healing Trauma in Horses

Carla will be heading back to Montana to facilitate another Being with horses…Clinic hosted by Emily Anderson at the beautiful Anderson Ranch in Emigrant, MT. Carla has studied with Sabine for the past eight years, and Emily has been practicing the Being with horses philosophy with her herd for the last three years. Their relationships with their horses have forever been changed, and they would love to share this philosophy with you!

Who:

If you are struggling to connect with your horse, are feeling disillusioned by the traditional horse world, or are simply yearning to build a true friendship with your horse, then this clinic is for you. We will have 5 spots open for people to bring their horses, and 8 spots open for auditors. Auditors will participate in all somatic and experiential exercises exploring presence and body language, and will be able to observe sessions with the horses.

What

For this clinic there will be a specific theme, which is recognizing and healing trauma in horses. In order to cover this topic appropriately, there will be a didactic portion that will take place in the form of a webinar prior to the clinic.

The clinic itself will be tailored towards the themes and needs of individual participants and their horses, and will offer a well-rounded introduction to the Being with horses… philosophy. Together we will take a look at the relationship between horses and humans, acknowledging it for what it often is, and exploring and envisioning what it can be. We will reconnect with our awareness, learn about communication through body language and presence, and explore a new way of being in relationship with our horses that is based on mutual care, understanding, and love.

Last year’s clinic:

I had long been searching for a way of connecting with my mare, Willa, that felt both authentic to me and like it honored and respected her as the sentient being she is. In all my years of working with horses, there seemed to be an expectation of using dominance in our interactions with horses, and that just didn’t sit well with me. Being With Horses is everything I’ve been looking for and more — from learning how to better communicate with and care for Willa, to fully recognizing and helping to heal her trauma, and honestly acknowledging the role I play in this reciprocal relationship. I’m so grateful to Carla and Emily for working together to share this opportunity with us in Montana and for creating safe space for a beautiful, heart-centered community of people to form around this important philosophy. Few things are more fulfilling to me than getting the chance to invest in Willa’s well-being, in our friendship, and in being a better person for her.

As a participating auditor of the Being With Horses Clinic, my observations were clear; the various teachings and exercises were equally about connection with oneself as they were with establishing an authentic relationship between horse and handler. The combination of experiences brought by Emily and Carla demonstrated the art of guiding one through a process of deeply seeing and listening to the energy within themselves and their horses, allowing for an opening and connection for mutual growth to occur. In essence, this clinic guides one through an experience that answers what it means to feel whole, connected and in relation with what and who we love.
